This is an English website, it is 2am in London. Most people will not be on and perhaps those that are don't have an answer. Be patient.

I'm sure this has probably been asked elsewhere, but how well does cartilage stretch, and what are the differences in methods, aftercare, etc that one would use? Would it be possible to get pierced at a larger size initially, and how large could that be?

Cartilage is generally much harder to stretch, you'll need to go much slower than with lobes. In-between sizes often come in handy too (such as 4.5mm, 5.5mm, etc). You can get pierced at a larger size but I'd suggest dermal punching over piercing, if you're sure you want a large-gauge cartilage piercing. You can get punched as large as around 6mm quite easily, bigger is also possible depending on your piercer and your anatomy.
