I hate double flared. they're hard to get in. I'd go with the o rings. a lot easier.

You can get a blow out at any size. Do you have a picture? Someone might be able to tell you whether it is or not. If it is a blow out you should downsize, insert your jewellery the opposite way to usual (ie if you usually put it in from the front start putting it in from the back) to encourage the tissue back into the fistula and do some oil massages (if you don't already). Vitamin e, jojoba, bio-oil, coconut, almond or even olive if you're skint are all good
Got: Left Ear: Lobe (19mm/5mm/1.6mm), 4xhelix, 5mm conch

Right Ear: Lobe (19mm/5mm/1.6mm), inner helix, orbital (Top)

    Other: 4xtongue (2/2.4/3.2mm), septum

How long can I expect organic tunnels etc to last?
I have a years-old pair of buffalo horn tunnels (that don't exactly match lol) and a pair of wooden tunnels that I got earlier this year. The buffalo ones still feel fine but one has grain beginning to show and t'other looks like it's starting to crack on the inside :( I've given them a good oiling today but at what point should I consider getting rid of them?

Is it normal for wood tunnels to look darker after oiling btw?
Also have a pair of stone plugs, one has a crack along the wearable surface which worries me slightly.
what's a few seconds of pain for a lifetime of shiny?

    Both lobes 1/2", 5mm, 1.6mm
Left rook & 5mm helix punch
Right helix x2 & forward helix
    VCH, 5mm tongue

Wood plugs will always get darker over time as you oil them, and as they absorb oils from your ears.

You should oil wood/horn/bone plugs on a regular basis even if you're not wearing them, and avoid getting them wet or keeping them anywhere that gets humid, like a bathroom. I have organic plugs that are 1-3 years old and they're all fine still.

Be careful with the stone ones though - I have a couple that have tiny chips in them from me being too clumsy, and they can irritate my ears easily (still wear them though because I like them :( haha)

Trouble is, I only found that out recently, from here :/ so my old horn tunnels haven't had the proper care. Going to keep an eye on that crack for sure.
I do love them, little mismatched buggers that they are.

    Thanks Kate

If the wearable is still smooth then it should be fine to carry on wearing them, it's just the aesthetics I guess!

    Don't panic
you might have to stretch slightly to get it out. This happened to me once, I basically stretched by pulling. Sounds terrible I know. Whatever you don't just yank it out by force. It could even be that your ear has swollen slightly due to aggravation. Try a chamomile soak then plenty of lube.

When you do get them out, leave them out for a few weeks to let your ears settle. They need to be quite loose for DFs. Next time you try, literally just pop them in and out a few times, from both sides if you can, using plenty lube.

You can get internally threaded DFs by the way, if you don't want to risk this happening again.
