    Default Nose piercing issues

    Hi
I had my nostril pierced early September 2019. Straight away I had issues with a bump which went down significantly after a few months but was still there. I am currently wearing a stud. The bump had gone down by about December but the area around the piercing is constantly red and there was still a small bump/lump/general uneven skin where the piercing hole is.
last week I accidentally knocked the piercing and it bled. Now the bump has gone huge and very inflamed again. I had stopped rinsing with salt water every day by about December and was just washing the piercing in the shower, however since the bump is now big again should I do salt water soaks every day again?
also, will the bump ever go away? Is there a time scale where this generally happens? Or will it always be a case of, it begins to get better, then it gets irritated and gets worse, etc.
Iím honestly getting to the point now where nothing seems to work - even when the piercing has looked itís best in terms of the healing process, the skin around it is always bright red and there is always a small bump/ scar tissue around it so it never sits flat to my skin. I want to take the piercing out if this is what itís always going to look like. It isnít worth it , it looks gross. Should I give it a couple more months to see what happens or is this it Ďhealedí? Will the bump/redness go away if I take it out?
    thanks !

    Hello Rk22

Sorry, to hear that you are having problems. I know that when my mum and myself had our noses pierced they took a long time to heal up. I think you did they right thing not to bother with salt water soaking and you are now shower rinsing. Do you know what type of jewellery your nose stud is made from? As you maybe funny with the jewellery. I can only now wear high graded Titanium (even Titanium some is good and some is not so).

Have you seen a piercer about it? I have had many bumps in the past and they do go but, they can take ages. One bump would not go - in the end I had to retire the piercing. (It was migrating anyway but, they were a double Tragus). They do look so much better now and the redness has now gone. I couldn't believe that by the time my piercer had taken my top Tragus piercing out and going back home again the hole had sealed over.

Could anyone else advise more please?

I'd go see a piercer who can assess you in person. As above you need to be wearing implant grade, mirror finish jewellery that's correctly fitting. A good piercer will ensure this.

Hi! I’m sure that the metal is titanium, the piercer I went to has seen it because she has changed the jewellery out for me a couple of times since the initial bar was too long so it was poking out. Last time I went she just suggested washing with salt water an then drying it with a hair dryer for the next 2 months however it’s been over 2 months now. I think I am a bit funny with jewellery but this is definitely titanium. I’m glad to hear that the redness goes away! It sucks because I love the way pierced nose looks on me but it just isn’t looking good at the moment :( I am happy to leave it for a bit longer but I just don’t want it to build up lots of scarring from constant bumps being there.
if my piercer has already ensured I’m wearing the right jewellery, then what should I do? I will go and see her to make sure, but if it is the right jewellery (which I’m sure it is), what should I do after that? X

You have two options, stick it out and wait for it to (hopefully) settle or take it out, let it heal and try again a couple of months down the line.
