Default Local Geographical Variations in Pierced People

    Hi all,

In the town where I live I rarely see anyone with much in the way of piercings. Even when I go to Glasgow city centre I don't see many.

About once a month I go to a nearby small town and I see lots of people with piercings - In fact, not just piercings but tattoos, wild coloured hair etc.

I'm unsure why this is - the area is a bit run down, not sure if this is a factor.

Has anyone else seen local variations in the numbers of pierced (or generally alternative) people?

I tend not to notice tbh. I see lots of variation in Manchester but that doesn't surprise me for a city center and large student community.

Is it possible the small town has a lot of student accommodation in it?

See plenty down here in Kent in pretty much all towns and Canterbury with its uni and colleges. Plenty of choice for artists and piercers too

It's got a college but isn't by any means a big student place.

I can only assume it is a local trend. It's a former industrial town which has lost its former glory now the industry has all shut down.

I like to go there because there are other alternative people around (that and there is a great pizza place!)

I live in rural Texas. Most people are confused by mods or think they are tacky, see a rare few my age with an extra ear peircing. Even more rarely a nostril, never seen another septum!
Right Ear : Triple helix (2/28/19) First lobe (1993) Second lobe (6/8/19)

    Interesting question!

I hang out with quite a few alternative culture people and piercings are so common I don't notice them. I am reasonably sure though that where I live they are far fewer pierced people. It's hard to say though as although I have several piercings, if I wear my hair down then only the tiny gem in my nose is visible and it is tiny so most people don't spot it anyway.

We have got tattooist's in every corner you look here. - Quite a few people are tattooed here too. You don't bat an eyelid anymore lol.. Older men with hands/necks tattooed, women with all their legs tattooed etc.. Piercing wise Daith's and Tragus' are common. We have only seen one young lady at the bus stop with quite a few piercings - who we got talking to. I have noticed more pierced women on Tv adverts recently.
Left side - Ear Lobes 1,2,3 Daith, Helix, Rook, Lower Conch and Double Tragus.

Right side -Ear Lobes 1,2,3 Daith, "Paw" print piercing on the flat of my ear, Tragus, Nostril, Helix and Eyebrow.

    Retired - Right Eyebrow's x2.

    Quite a few Tattoo's.

Would like a Forward Helix or two or maybe three!

Hi Mazzy, roughly whereabouts in the UK are you?

You're right about tattoos - everyone has them and there are new tattoo shops springing up all the time.
Piercings are different - yes, plenty of women have a tragus or other discrete ear piercing and I see other things - eyebrows, lips etc but this one part of Glasgow definitely has a much higher concentration of people with more than one piercing or less common piercings such as a bridge.
