Thread: First Tattoo Decisions

    Default First Tattoo Decisions

I’ve have been playing with tattoos in my mind for the longest. It was hard for me to settle on anything. Years back I thought of getting a back neck tattoo, no idea what, but I had that placement in mind for a good amount of time. Then I was just like nope not feeling it for my first since I came to the decision that I want to be able to see my first with out the struggle of using two mirrors or a phone pic. Lol

So mind you that was years ago but now I finally have an more of an actual idea and placement for my tattoo ( shock because from way back I thought I was never going to decide or find anything)

Anyways tomorrow I’m going to a shop with my older sister who is also going to get a tattoo to discuss the price, look through artwork, and possibly set an appointment. Im really officially set on getting a simple symmetrical floral collar bone tattoo in black and white. I haven’t decided on the flowers though but I do have an example of what I'm looking for in overall shape.

    How exciting!
Take any reference pics of the flower types to give your chosen artist a good idea of your thoughts. That will help set the bar of placement and design giving you something you both want and appreciate. Hopefully you've checked your artist out and like the look of their work? Remember...if you have any doubts then look for a different artist as there are loads out there.
    Hope you enjoy your consult!

Well I said I was going today but the weather is really crappy and I’m feeling a lil bleh. Lolol At least it will give me time to really think on it.

In the mean time I was hoping for any suggestions or opinions on flowers????

I really like the over all shape and design on this one. It’s the one where the more I look the more I want it!
The only thing I’m unsure of is the flowers???

    Such a cute placement idea.
Oh & congrats on your soon to be first tattoo!
I think the flowers give it a cute touch, but I'm not 110% sold on them.
Are you keeping the same kind of flower or a different kind?

Right ear: 2 lobes, daith, industrial

It's nice but not my thing really but then it's your body, no one else should be making this decision really. Just make sure that you take in lots of reference or have a really good idea of what you want and also that the artist you are seeing excels in that kind of work.

It's all very personal really as Boo & Lady J say above. All we can do is throw basic ideas around to help open your mind up a bit but ultimately the design needs to inspired by your wants and your artist's interpretation of what will work and not work under the skin.

    Here's my thoughts.....

The image you posted looks okay but personally (and it is personal) I'm not totally sold. I like the idea of using a flower & foliage more like Nightshade as it's not such a commonly tattooed flower but it has a dark side and delicate impact. You could consider some really nice B&G shading but then create a subtle fusion with some dark mauve/purple accents on petals to bring it to life a little without being in your face colour. I also wouldn't go with a symmetrical mirror image as imo it would look more natural and wild if both sides have their own uniqueness.

There are millions of photos, illustrations and pictures on google so my advice would be to look at all sorts of examples and print off ones you really like. Narrow them down to maybe 10 pics which you can take along to your chosen artist to collaborate with them then let them do their initial design for you to review with them. It's a good idea to also write down your ideas and questions as you will likely forget things when you are sitting in the studio with your artist. Then bite the bullet and get it inked

Wow guys ... I didn’t think you all would jump to the conclusion that I wanted you to decide for me??? I know it’s my decision ultimately.... ^-^;;; I guess I worded it wrong? I just wanted flower only ideas/ names of flowers even because I was a lil stumped and wanted people to throw ideas and to open my mind more ( like what you said Tiki) I’m not quite sold on anything but I’m still looking.

I also don’t want to get anything really huge for my first tattoo, I don’t know my pain tolerance at all yet. As for color tattoos I’m scared to tread that path I feel like I would be greatly disappointed in the end. Only because of my darker completion I don’t think colored tattoos would be real true to pigment. o n o

    Hey Mid,
Apologies if we shocked you but you wouldn't believe how many people would take what you say literally and then start yammering on that they don't like it after they've inked it.

Here's some suggestions of flowers to look into

Nightshade, Black Orchid, Spiderwort, Morning Glory, Cardinals and Golden Current.

Pretty sure a good artist could make something with any of these delicate beauties.

The choosing is always the hardest part but the most exciting is when you feel the needles work their magic

It's actually really common. It wasn't a conclusion, it was merely advice.

Each to their own. Tiki has thought of some nice flowers for you. I personally though would usually want my tattoos to originate initially from my own mind/my own ideas but I can appreciate that not everyone has the same thought processes.

When I first started to get tattooed I literally spent months looking at the things I liked, not tattoo designs but actual things, photos, drawings, artwork, you name it. I think this is where people fall down, they want a tattoo and think only to look at tattoo designs or completed tattoos. Yet if you're getting any kind of realism work an artist who excels/specialises in that will often be working from a photo, not a drawing.

As for colour, if you ever consider it, speak to an excellent artist who has done plenty of colour work and ask their advice regarding colours for your complexion. Any good artist will be willing to sit down and work with you to design or create something with you in mind, the tattoo is only ever going to be yours anyway so it absolutely has to be tailored for you.

No worries. It’s alright guys ^-^;;; I guess I assumed you came to the conclusion because people around always jump to conclusions with out really getting to know me. I also just was actually beginning to worry that this was common occurrence here for people completely following idea advice.

Thanks for the flower suggestions to look at Tiki, I’ll take a look I feel like my flower knowledge range is really thin. Sometimes I remember many sometimes I feel like I’m brain dead. I have been looking into black magic hollyhocks. I always thought the bat orchid was awesome <<<< but not for a for a collar bone tattoo maybe in the future if all goes well.

And yes I don’t really look at completed tattoo works. I look at tons of things even save in a huge folder. ^-^
Thank you for the advice Boo on tattoo artists!!! Sorry if I offended anyone because I can’t help but feel like I did.
