Sounds like I was right, it was done poorly.

Healing it with separate sterile high-quality bars fitted by a piercer in a sterile environment should be the way to go. It will always put pressure on your ear if you put a long bar back in it, now or after it's healed. This will cause irritation and possible rejection/migration.

I've ordered separate bars and hoops that are implant grade titanium. My question is, by the time they come in (hopefully by Saturday, maybe Monday), the piercing will have been done 2 weeks ago, so should I change the original bar for these separate ones, or should I just wait until the suggested 4-6 weeks? I really can't get to a piercer to change them out, since the nearest piercer is 20+ miles away. My podunk little town does not have a piercing/tattoo shop, and I don't have the means to head up that way for awhile, due to work.

You really should get them changed by a piercer in a sterile environment. They need changing asap due to the bad placement and that bar putting pressure on your ear. Alternatively you could take them out and get it repierced when you're in a position to be able to make trips to a good piercer?

Totally agree with Boo. Too much risk with the piercing approximately 2wks old.
Is the new jewellery coming pre-sterilised?
Do you have sterile tapers in case of problems?
Have you got appropriate gloves to use and the correct biocide formula to sanitise the area?
The list of questions could go on so imo I would make that 20mile trip to be safe. It is up to you though. Good luck

Honestly, if I take it out, I wouldn't get it redone. I'm wondering if my ear just isn't compatible for the piercing itself. The bump seems smaller. I'll talk to my regular piercer and see what she says. If my ear is too flat for the piercing itself, I may just let it close up completely and cut my losses. But I just really think my ear may be too flat for the bottom hole?

It may be possible but not at the angle it's been done at in my opinion, a custom bent bar may also be required.
