Unhappy My ear healed OVER earring...

I got my ear pierced about 7 months ago with a needle at a piercing shop. About a week ago, it got irritated from being bumped around while I was sleeping and by the morning it had keloid scarring and basically already healed over the ball of the earring. My piercer had put in a long labret so I couldn't take the earring out without twisting the ball off but my ear has healed completely over the ball.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? I obviously cannot take the earring out at this point, should I go to my doctor to get it surgically removed?

    Thanks in advance!

It's probably not keloid scarring. More likely hypertrophic scarring. You should have had the bar reduced once the swelling went down to prevent getting bumps like this since a smaller bar would allow it to sit flush. If your piercer is competent I would speak to them and see what they say but a photo would be very helpful so I'm not giving you bad advice (I'm no expert btw). If you suspect it is a keloid you need to get it diagnosed by a dermatologist and proceed from there, but I've heard they can only be removed with surgery.

A good piercer/mod artist can usually nick it out quickly.

However, if you are prone to keloiding and it is a keloid then it's best to see your doctor and reconsider if piercing is a good idea for you in the future.

Sorry haven't been on for awhile but I am here to update in case someone is in a similar situation, here is a picture of what it looked like:

It ended up getting even worse when my boyfriend bumped it, so the bump got even bigger. In this photo you can barely see the ball of the earring, after he bumped it you couldn't see it at all. I ended up going to my pcp and she had to make a surgical incision and twist the ball off. The hypertrophic scarring has reduced significantly since then but is still there a tiny bit.
