I've had to work on Christmas Day before and it's actually really lovely. Much more relaxed, no managers around, senior colleagues bringing us little presents and the canteen providing all staff with a free Xmas breakfast and dinner! Plus we get paid time and a half. I'd work every xmas day if I could, but my family would go nuts.

    Sounds lovely!!

I think I've not worked Christmas day 2 or 3 times in the past 10 years. No extra pay usually and work as normal, I only do 4 hours max though or 6 over a split shift.

Doubt I'll be working this year though, virtually no work for me these days.

We don't celebrate Halloween in Greece, so the next celebration that there is for us right now is Christmas. I personally lke Christmas, the whole family gets together and eats my grandma's flawless food. I also like the decorations, twinkly lights, lots of red everywhere, velvets! What I don't like is buying presents because I'm broke, haha. I used to buy presents for most people in the family, but nowadays I only get stuff for my parents and maybe my cousin.

I spent today with a couple of really good work friends wandering around Dobbies getting all excited about Christmas. I got a stollen for me and Nick and I'm just about to write a rough list of what to buy for whom whilst wearing my christmas jammies

Well, call me weird if ya like but the decks are out and going up

I've got a lot of my snowmen and santas out that are free standing and some of my ornaments that have flickering bulbs. Two of them are already switched on. Stockings are on the fireplace awaiting the tinsel and lights, etc, that I adorn the mantle with. I have to wait for our athletically built son though to come home from work and leap into the loft for my huge tree and many deck boxes as I don't fancy doing a real live version of dangling legs through the ceiling. I chat with my friend on Monday nights so my decorating will be halted but will continue tomorrow. I've even bought a new snowman with extendable legs to go with my..seven others. I had to make myself take an Ebay page down so I didn't buy another

I've bought the special Christmas cards and the ones for the kids at school and on our son's bus. I just need to sort out neighbours, teachers and some family members now with the cards. I've already bought so many presents that our back room looks a right state. Off to Birmingham in less than two weeks for the Christmas fair and I'm so excited. I've still got quite a lot to buy but now the sparklies are going up, it makes it even more special for me, although hubby thinks I'm nuts. He's right BUT I'm a nice nuts

    I LOVE Christmas!

I dunno whether it's something I've always loved or if this is my best mate's influence (she gets excited about Christmas in March...). I love the music, the carols, decorating, the smell of Christmas trees, and having all the family over to our place on Boxing day (we do the main celebrations on Boxing day for some reason, I think it's so that people can do their own thing for Christmas day without too much pressure).

I'm awful at buying gifts though, so it makes me feel a lot of pressure. But, if I manage to find the perfect gifts for people, it makes me so happy, especially if I can surprise them with something they NEVER thought of! A couple of years back I got my parents the DVDs of Stressed Eric, their faces were priceless.

Last year I was working so I had a lot of money to spend, but this year onwards I'm back to being a student so again, I fear it will only be naff stuff I get people. And even then, it's my parents' money anyway. =(
    Current:
    - Ear lobes x2 (right) and x1 (left)
    - Tunnel (left lobe) 10mm
    - Navel

    - A half-rejected industrial (left)
    - Tragus (left)
    - Nostril (right)
    - Conch (right)
    - Nipple (left)

    Pending:
    - Rooks (both), in the distant future

    Retired:
    - Septum
    - Lip (left)
    - Nipple (right)

I reckon my neighbour will put decs up soon, I saw someone mention that they would never put decs up before remembrance day which I kinda agree with, it's an old tradition out of respect I believe but I don't think many know of it or follow it any more. Mine usually go up in early December ^_^

I'm planning on trying to get all my Christmas present shopping done this week so it's out the way.

I'm really apathetic when it comes to Christmas. I don't begrudge anyone that is really enthusiastic about it, but it's the commercialism that ruins it for me.

I enjoy the time with family, Dr Who Christmas special, and a nice dinner but that's about it. Up until this year I've either been a student of sorts or working in customer service roles but this year I get two weeks off at Christmas with absolutely nothing I "have" to do.....Which is nice.....Apart from the fact my contract means I don't get paid for that time.

Personally I'd work on Xmas day if the overtime was good. Working a couple of boxing days for overtime and it was definitely worth it.

You sound like me, I have worked most Christmas days no problem as well. I do like it for my son though but he's getting older so it's less "magical" for him now. Fortunately he's not that materialistic, never has been.

If I didn't work in the education sector I'd probably still try and book off a couple of weeks at Christmas just because it's a convenient time to have it.

I was probably a bit more materialistic when I was younger, but in the last few years I've been leaning more towards "minimalism" in the sense that I don't have stuff just for the sake of having stuff.

All this being said, I've recently had to move back in with my parents due to lack of monies.....So I shall be helping decorate the house, and the garden, and the tree......
