Wow! There's some really interesting stories here. Such a diverse mix of reasons, too. I'm particularly interested in the tongue web stories as it's the only oral piercing I'd really consider, but it does seem to be that everyone retires it eventually. Plus, so many retired nipples! I had no idea! Still, makes me feel better; I was paranoid for ages that a repierced nipple would result in rejection, so it's nice to hear lots of people having successful repierces. =)

Also about a week before I took it out, my friend's navel piercing fully rejected and fell right out, leaving her with a nasty scar, so that was enough to scare me into retiring it. I've had it done again since, but it's migrated a lot and I fear I'll have to retire it sooner or later.
Why don't you upload a photo on one of the other threads ('Ask the Community', perhaps?), see what the general consensus is? If it's just migrated or if it's rejecting?

Could try wearing a glass retainer? See how you look without it/with a scar? Then you could decide if you didn't like the look without losing the piercing. Although as Hazel said, there's scar removal. Plus, daily massages can help reduce the appearance. =)

I've had my tongue web for more than two years now! I'm quite surprised it's lasted so long, and it doesn't appear to have any signs of rejection or anything. I really like my tongue web. I forget about it a lot of the time, but it makes me really happy when I look at it in the mirror. It's a pretty good conversation starter too!
Current: 9mm lobes, 5mm left tragus, 5mm left conch, tongue web, nasallang, left rook, left anti-tragus, right tragus, right daith, right snug, right forward helix, bridge, 5mm septum, three-point left helix spiral, double left eyebrow

    Planning: Vertical labret re-pierced

Oooh, I completely missed that you have one! I really like them. I keep considering it; I think they look nicer than standard tongue piercings (I think if I were to get a 'standard' tongue piercing, I'd want venoms, but I feel the fact that my lower right P2, slants lingually/the occlusal surface actually rests under my tongue, I'd just end up knackering it. So, not an option.)

Do you wear a ring or a barbell?

I had mine for five years, even when I retired it, it didn't have any signs of rejection or migration. They're quite hardy piercings.

I wear a barbell in mine. I would have preferred a curved barbell, but my piercer used a straight one. I haven't bothered to get it changed, though, because my piercing has been fine with the straight bar.

That's good to know. I don't plan to retire mine any time soon.

I've had to retire my second lobes twice. They were gunned both times. The first time I had it done the right one healed, the left one didn't. I tried it again at a different place that my friend recommended, left one healed, right one didn't. A coworker told me I should try going to a professional so I did and finally got them both to heal properly.

I don't have anything to contribute to this thread, but it's such an interesting subject :O Great idea, Jester!

I should have retired my left second gunned lobe when I first got it, though. It is not where I wanted it to be and, prepare yourselves, the gun got stuck the first time so the plastic-y earring got kinda crooked from the force... which I only discovered after I took it out like a month later. No wonder it wasn't healing. I should have retired it then but I couldn't bring myself to do it, and now it's a "part of me" so to speak!
