Is that white gunk the same sort of thing as a scab, but on the tongue ? Is it normal ? It looks mega-annoying, hope it heals up well for you !

I'm not entirely sure what it is (I assumed tongue scab in my diary) but it is normal - amounts are different for everyone though. Like I said, mine wasn't as much or as thick but normal all the same

I had my tongue split about 2 years ago and never had any of the white stuff within the actual incision but had it spread over my tongue. to my knowledge it occurs due to a 'friendly' bacteria that is protecting the wound- so sort of like a bacteria-scab if that makes sense.

Not exactly the same thing but when I had my lingual frenectomy (god about 6 years ago now!) I remember having this white stuff all on the bottom of my tongue where it had been cut. I think its just what happens during oral surgeries!

I get a similar white gunk on my tongue when I have swollen glands in my neck or when my geographic tongue syndrome plays up- it causes very deep cracks to form in my tongue like someone has taken a scalpel or razor blade to it. I think the gunk is an immune response. Takes a while to go but it will.
