    Question Cheek piercing placement question

My friend got her cheeks pierced at Easter, the piercer who did it advised her against getting too far back due to 'feeling a pulse' there. So she took his advice and got them placed in approximately he corner of your mouth when you smile, so not at all dalias but also not quite cheek piercings as she wanted them where people would normally have dimples.

Anyway, they have been healing great but she's just not that sold on the placement and is considering going elsewhere to get them done further back.

this interests me as I had considered them myself. Is what the piercer said correct? Would it be ill advised to look elsewhere for a piercer who doesn't share the same concerns?

    thank you.

There are saliva glands you have to be careful not to hit, but otherwise i'm not aware of a pulse going through your cheek :/. Darren I suspect will be answering most of your questions here :3.
However, if she's not sold on the placement, I would firstly have said she shouldn't have got them done at all. She could always go for doubles?

Yeah I think she wondered if they would 'grow' on her but it doesn't seem to be happening. I know very little about cheek piercings and seeing as people like Elayne Angel don't even advise them I'm finding it a little difficult getting solid advice.

i personally wouldn't want them at the corners of my mouth I'd want them further back just like dimples so I just wondered if there was any truth to this 'pulse' theory.

I can understand that to a degree, but that's quite a risk to take IMO.
As far as i'm aware, no, but obviously i'm not a professional.

Usually the most idea placement for most people is if you come straight down from their eyes and in line with the corner of their mouth, it's an easy way to space them evenly given the unsymmetrical nature of people's faces.

As for 'feeling' a pulse, that's a really inaccurate way of checking for blood flow under the skin. If he was that worried he should have applied a clamp and checked the site with a small light. But either way, there are no major veins or arteries in your cheeks that would cause problems if pierced. So it sounds like a bit of misinformation covering up his improper placement.

    Doubles would be cool though.

So sorry for being a bit thick but when you say straight down from your eyes you mean the outer of the eye or the middle? Because if its the middle then that's probably where she got them.

    thank you both btw.

Outer. I just checked mine, and they're directly down about 3mm in from the outer line. But as Darren says, that's where you start, and then there's all the fun of altering placement to fit your face :P.

    Right, great advice, thanks!

And unless you have a freak vein you are unlikely to be knocked back on placement?
