The numbers are a measure of how thick the bar is (gauge) eg. 16g = 1.2mm, 14g = 1.4mm and so on.

There isn't any standard size for a piercing, your piercer will choose the best size for you based on anatomy etc. so you'll need to ask whoever pierced it what size yours is. Generally helix piercings are 16g (1.2mm) though.

You'd be best going to a piercer to see what size you actually need. Rings come in a huge variety of gauges (thickness) and diameter.

You don't mention how old the piercing is but if it's less than 6 months old, don't change it to a ring. It's still healing at that stage and changing to a ring will only cause aggravation. Rings are rubbish for healing, they move too much.
what's a few seconds of pain for a lifetime of shiny?

    Both lobes 1/2", 5mm, 1.6mm
Left rook & 5mm helix punch
Right helix x2 & forward helix
    VCH, 5mm tongue
