Thread: Dermal Punches

    Default Dermal Punches

    Hi Guys,

Last week I had a dermal punch done in my left lobe. I was punched at 8mm at had a 10mm plug put in. It's a week later and it seems to be settling down ok. I have a question though. My piercer put an acrylic plug in, and I've read some stuff on acrylic not being great in new piercings as it's porous and can harbour bacteria. How soon can I/should I change this? I've bought a glass tunnel which I've got ready and waiting to put in. I spoke with my piercer and he wants to wait for a few weeks and put in a titanium plug in a few weeks.

I'm also waiting for this first dermal punch to heal up a bit more before I get a conch punch done. Again, been to chat with my piercer and he's gonna aim to punch it at 6mm, not sure what size plug we'll go for but guessing freshly punched cartilage isn't as forgiving as the lobe. I'm hoping he doesn't use acrylic for this one!!

Be good to hear your thoughts/advice on this!

    Cheers.

Acrylic shouldn't ever be used as initial jewellery, that's utterly dreadful practice by your piercer. I'd get it changed out as soon as you can by a competent piercer with sterile jewellery preferably. There's actually an EU directive that states only implant grade materials such as titanium or ptfe is allowed to be used in the UK as initial jewellery and it's for a damn good reason.
    Piercings: 6 lobes, 2 12mm stretched lobes, 4 helices, 3 tragus, daith, 2 nostril, 2.4mm VCH, 2.4mm daith
    Modifications: 5mm septum punch,
coinslot ear cartilage removal, 5mm conch punch
Cosmetic Modifications: Scar removal x7, semi permanent eyebrows, semi permanent eyeliner, semi permanent lipstick, lip dermal filler, botox
Retired Piercings: 3 nipple, tongue, 4 philtrum, 4 eyebrow, 2 outer labia, VCH, 1 lobe, rook, nostril, 3 nape MDs, 2 wrist MDs, septum, 3 upper conch, conch, 5 helices

Lobes really shouldn't be punched either, unless its to remove extensive scar tissue. Go to a competent piercer and get your lobe checked out, do not go back to him as he clearly doesn't have much of a clue.

    Now
    : 11mm lobes. 6mm septum.
    helix. tongue. rook. 5mm conch punches L & R.
    central labret. industrial. double nostrils.
    philtrum. tattoos.

    Retired: snakebites. nostril x 2. 2nd & 3rd lobes.
    helix. outer conch. nipple.

    Next: tattoos.

    Hi Guys,

Oh dear :( Interesting about the EU directive. I did not know that.

I should have explained a bit more about my lobe... I previously stretched my ears up to 10mm and had a ring of scar tissue that my piercer said would cause me problems if I tried to re-stretch (I let them close up and heal).

He seemed to know his stuff... maybe I've been blinded by science. Problem is, there aren't any other piercers where I live. Might have to research one further afield!

    Slightly worried now!!

Tbh your first thing is to get the acrylic out of your lobe asap, get some titanium/glass in there

Yeah the really troubling thing is acrylic jewelry can't be autoclaved so the jewelry used wasn't sterile. Really shocking that a piercer would do that!

Thats what I was thinking. Crappy chemicals and porousness aside, it makes you wonder how the jewellery was cleaned.
    Piercings: 9/16" & 6g lobes | 8g septum | some others
Other: 1 cutting | some tattoos

It wasn't, that's the scary thing.

I'd avoid that piercer like the plague and report them to the authorities for using unsterile equipment in fresh piercings.
