    Default New rook piercing inflammation.

I got my rook pierced 10 days ago, all was fine until a few days ago when it became very swollen and very sore. I understand that I've probably caught it or slept on it etc, but I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to reduce the swelling to give it some space to heal as the bar is literally ball to skin at the moment.

Also, can anyone tell me what signs to look out for with infection?

The only symptoms I have are swelling, redness, throbbing, sore/warm to touch and yellow puss. I have been taking anti-inflammatorys and doing SSS and not much improvement. Pain subsides slightly but swelling doesn't. I've just tried chamomile too to see if that helps.

    Thanks guys

Give it a cold soak to help reduce swelling and soothe it a bit. You could try a cold camomile one. Anti inflammatories are good so stick with them, ibuprofen is usually the best.
Infection signs are usually swelling, hot, throbbing, very sore, brown/green pus. Yours sounds more pissed off than infected to me but if you're worried or show any other signs of an infection (eg pus, the stuff you refer to sounds like lymph to me) then go see your GP, there's no way other than antibiotics to get rid of an infection!

My rook did this a week after being pierced. I just did SSS twice a day and took ibuprofen, kept an eye on it for infection but didn't touch it and it slowly went away. It might just be part of the healing process but keep an eye on it.

@ilovepiercings8 - you clearly didnt read my original post.

Thanks everyone, I've woken up this morning and the bottom ball is slowly dissapearing into the skin I'm getting quite worried now. Have made some chamomile ice so will give that a go and ring the piercers. Really dont want to lose it, I'd be quite annoyed!

    Thanks!

I hope your piercer is helpful & can reassure you.

You might need to get the jewellery swapped out for a longer bar but I'd think it'd be saveable
