Can anyone advise me of a really good, hard wearing nail varnish that doesn't involve using things like lamps to cure them, like Shellac? My sister has given me a base coat, top coat and Leighton Denny drops that really do help to dry the coats but it takes ages to dry off and I don't think I can sit around for an hour or more waiting for it to dry, (actually our pooches would make sure I'd be using my hands at some point). I have some Nails Inc among others, it's just the drying time that takes an age.

I've really got into dark colours and I'm blessed in having strong nails, (what I call guitar nails lol), I just hate it when varnish chips easily.

I personally found OPI and CG to be mega long lasting, I'd use OPI Nail Envy as a base, 2-3 coats of OPI/China Glaze polish and China Glaze Patent Leather top coat.

If you do your coats thin enough you won't need to be waiting an hour or using drops etc
    Piercings: 6 lobes, 2 12mm stretched lobes, 4 helices, 3 tragus, daith, 2 nostril, 2.4mm VCH, 2.4mm daith
    Modifications: 5mm septum punch,
coinslot ear cartilage removal, 5mm conch punch
Cosmetic Modifications: Scar removal x7, semi permanent eyebrows, semi permanent eyeliner, semi permanent lipstick, lip dermal filler, botox
Retired Piercings: 3 nipple, tongue, 4 philtrum, 4 eyebrow, 2 outer labia, VCH, 1 lobe, rook, nostril, 3 nape MDs, 2 wrist MDs, septum, 3 upper conch, conch, 5 helices

My sister loves her OPI but I don't think she's got any CG, I'll ask her. I think I've tried putting it on too thick as I thought it wouldn't cover properly otherwise. I'll try the thinner coats as you suggest. It would be nice to have my nails looking nice. Thanks Hazel.

I found my bottle of Ruby Pumps a couple of days ago and got so excited that it's nearly festive time to wear it

I don't know what it is, but I cannot get any brand to stay on chip free for more than a day! Even ones like CG, OPI and Morgan Taylor!

good base coat and top coat and remembering to cap the nail [put top coat around the top edge of the nail] goes a long way to helping nail varnish stay chip free.

Which top and base do you use Amelia?

I'm considering gel polish on mine soon, not sure what colour to go for.

I cant find a base coat i like so have been trying a few. None i really like but i really dont like the essie one as it seems to change the application of the nail varnish [makes it streaky]
I really like the sally hansen top coat [with the blue lid not sure its proper name] Its quite a thick consistency tho so i know some people dont like that. I fins it prolongs the life of my nail varnish and it smells quite nice too!

I love the look and how long gel lasts, but im just so lazy taking it off
