    Default metal detector at airport

    Hi all,

Can body jewelry trigger metal detector at airport? I don't want to go through pad-down or body search at airport!

    Thanks,
    S.

No you'll be fine. I have titanium in all my piercings and the only thing that sets off the alarms is the wire in my bra!

If you are wearing titanium then you shouldn't have a problem I have been through them with all my jewellery in and I was fine

I wear steel and I've never set them off in england... only abroad but I've never been more than vaguely patted down or hand scannered.

I've worn mixed metal in mine (though mainly titanium), and i've never set the alarms off. Although I have been searched, i'm not entirely sure why-I think change in my pocket set it off! Your piercings should be fine
Current: Double nostrils, philtrum, nipple. Various cartilage, 9/16'' lobes.
Retired: Nipple, navel x4, wrist, nape, MD, tongue web x2, lower lip piercings x4, nostril, helix, lobe piercings, septum, cheek piercings.

Yeah I think a polo wrapper set them off the first ever time in turkey. I've also set them off with a lot of zips on trousers and just mystery metal they pick up.

But England I never have. My mum always does either by her shoes or her bra. Tis a strange thing really...

I got away with a massive spiked belt in British customs, in Spain I completely forgot I was wearing it-the man was not happy :P. Lol, they were way more concious there, but normally minor things shouldn't set them off. Can't believe a polo wrapper did Carlu!

I used to get so worried that I'd set an alarm off haha! But yeah customs are so picky, they didn't like my studded collar I have for some reason :\ I think the only real issue piercings have with things like that are x-rays, they insist you take them all out and believe me my tragus made a fuss!!!!

They will only make you take piercings out for an x-ray if it's going to affect that area, ie if you're getting your foot x-rayed there's no reason for you to take your tongue piercing out etc.

As for detectors it's very unlikely, if it happens then I don't see the issue, you explain the piercing, show it if needed and move on. Only thing that's ever set one off for me was a big bunch of keys and a heavily studded belt I was wearing, that was in court though not an airport (no I wasn't in trouble)

I get asked all the time if I set off metal detectors (I was an animal control officer and had to go to court once a week). It has never happened.
