is a septum supposed to be placed closer to your head or the end of your nose, or is it just personal preference?

After comparing pictures of my septum at 1.2 and 1.6 I've decided I'm so much happier with it at 1.6. My mum still hates it though haha. Hard to believe I've nearly had it a year already...

So my septum hates having a retainer in. It was pierced at 1.6 with a retainer and didn't settle until I put a plug in it. Thought I'd try it again at 2.4 and its got really sore again! Maybe its the bend in them.. Might try one of the glass ones which is more cornered (with a straighter wearable!).
I got the straight retainer I had been wearing in my septum changed to a little curved barbell yesterday. So its visable for the first time. Still a bit unsure about it now I see it, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. What do you guys think of it?
