Are lace parasols functional or just decorative? I know it sounds a bit silly, but they're full of holes, so surely that's going to let sun through? But on the other hand, it'll block out some light/heat, right?

Just I've seen some gorgeous parasol patterns and I'd love to make one. Maybe use the lace as an overlay on a paper/fabric parasol? Hmm.

We have SO much stuff still to pack/chuck/sell etc for moving (42 hours to go!) and I've totally run out of steam. We also have to in the middle of all this, get our wedding invitations picked up from my mum and dads, address all of them, pack them all and address and stamp all of the RSVP envelopes ASAP because there was a delay with the printing which means our RSVP deadline on them all is ridiculously close. Is it appropriate to put a note in explaining why they only have a couple of weeks to let us know?! Argh, panic central!

Oh and I have a stupid staff meeting tonight at 6.30 which I just making everything more awkward!

They're purely decorative, and completely useless at blocking the sun. Speaking from experience!

Lace = holes so it's only ever going to shade you to a certain extent and only if thick/dark/lined.

Look for sunbrellas that have a UV-coating for actual protection.

Applying for a job that I really, really, really want. Really want. They wanted an application filled out in person but unfortunately I'm on the opposite side of the country... The receptionist said I could try emailing.

    Wish me luck?

Thank god i sorted out Medicare as soon as got here! Turns out ive got a hole in my ear drum and an infection. Would've cost me $60 for the appointment today and then god know what at the weekend when i have to go back and get it cleaned.

I LOVE people like you! I work at a hospital and you have NO IDEA how many people are clueless about Medicare. It makes my job so much easier when we don't have to fluff around finding out what foreigners are eligible for! (some places are exempt for certain urgent treatment, but only if it can't wait until they go home/some people are uncontactable a week after they've received treatment/people from certain places are only exempt for a certain amount of time after they enter the country) Public hospitals will bill you as reciprocal(ie medicare) from the UK if it's urgent, unless it's treatment for something like fertility or other non-urgent stuff. I think a hole in your eardrum/infection would constitute urgent. BUT you have Medicare! and that is a wonderful thing for people like me

The main reason i got it was because im going to need to get a depo shot every 3 months and i know medical care is expensive over here and that wouldve helped some what. When i told my friend from home (who is also here) that i was waiting on the card they were just like 'Dont you have insurance?' well yes i do have insurance but thats not gonna help me much if i get really ill and all the costs gonna come straight out of my pocket is it now.
