It's only some Buddhists that do not eat onions or garlic. The reason usually given is that garlic / onions stimulate negative emotions and make the mind restless. ISKON (the Hare Krishna movement) usually abstain from them, as well as followers of Yoga and Ayurveda. It's often part of a Sattvic diet, which aims to promote balance of both body and mind.

What do you all use as a milk substitute? I hate hate hate soya milk (apart from alpro soya chocolate) and I've been having water on my cereal recently which is very depressing

    Any suggestions?

Rice milk is nice on cereal and for making porridge, but kinda ends up floating in tea, which isn't very nice :( You can get oat milk too (which I wouldn't recommend). Almond milk tastes amazing but is really expensive.

My other half was brought up veggie, can't quite make up my mind on what my views of raising a child veggie are
I tend to eat veggie unless we eat out somewhere cause I really enjoy veggie food and its pointless making 2 separate meals (and practically impossible in our teeny kitchen)
