I have discovered that there are two teams near me, one practises twice a week and the other only once, so I emailed the ones who train once because it seemed more sensible to start small and build up than throw myself in at the deep end. Plus their website was better
She said skates like these are good to start out with, as buying expensive ones and then not enjoying it would be a total waste. Plus it does just sound like a lot of fun, I really am considering giving it a go!

Yeah, I didnt wanna buy mega expensive skates and only wear them once... Although theyll be cute for photoshoots too I guess!

Thanks for that link though, very handy! I'd found an online shop in the US that sells amazing custom skates for about 300, so I wanna get good simply to justify buying them!

I joined the forum of the london rollergirls and basically asked when their next intake is, cos theres one on Saturday but I don't have skates, plus Id wanna practice for a bit first and I wouldnt have the cash to carry on anyway!

I think I'm going to have a go on the first Sunday in February (newbie day, plus the first 4 sessions are free, which is a bonus) the lady I emailed said I can borrow skates for a bit until I know whether it's for me or not, but they're so cute I'm tempted to buy some anyway just so I can look at them!
    I'm quite nervous though, I hope they're friendly :-/
    Good luck with your practising!

    Thank you!

Its really good that the first sessions are free! And nice that you can borrow skates too!

I'm gonna buy some cheap ones, cos even if I hate the actually roller derby stuff, it'll be good exercise to zoom round the car park in them!

Apparently the next intake for the London girls will be in June, so I'll practice til then, then get in touch and come along and watch a session later in the year!

Until then i think Ill just try and meet up with other new-ish wannabe rollergirls and practice a bit, and just try and get it so i'll be ahead when I start!

Now that you've mentioned them, I've found the nearest ones to me. They're in Cardiff and called the Cardiff Dragon Dolls. I'm so interested in it, but I don't know how I would get to the training sessions. The place they train is so out of the way!

Will have to look for skates....hmmmmn

I've wanted to do Roller Derby since I saw a girl on Miami Ink who did it...looks great fun! I played a little bit of ice hockey in the past so I'd imagine it to be fairly similar.

I'm off to look for a team near me

EDIT Just found one!! Granite City Roller Girls! http://www.granitecityrollergirls.com/index.html

TBH some of the girls look like right bruisers...I'm only little and scrawny, they'd probably laugh me out of the rink...:(

I agree. But I think I may have to cry! lol I've just been looking for skates and they are bloomin expensive! The shop that the Dragon Dolls recommended sells derby skates for 75! I don't have that kind of money at the moment but I can't find anywhere else to look!
