Don't really have a favourite as I mostly listen to psytrance, but band-wise I love John Butler Trio, The Jezebels and Kings of Leon's first few albums.
And The Offspring will always be one of my faves

Protest the Hero. The music is just awesome to listen to and very fun to play the bass, even if it is hard, which it mostly is.
Nile is good to listen to and play, and the subject matter (ancient Egyptian everything) is interesting.
Viraemia is really damn technical, and you should play the songs on bass it if you desperately need to make your fingers bleed. So much tapping!

    Dark tranquility

Probably my favourite melodic metal band
