Bit of a long story but the basic jist is Owner has decided to close down. It's all good though, I'm in a great position to find another job right now and I know a few places taking on, shouldn't be out of a job for too long (hopefully!)

Getting a letter from HMRC saying I got to pay them back from when they overpaid tax credits in june 2014. Stupid when it was actually their fault that they overpaid me. I am going to have to find the money out of somewhere to pay them before the deadline!

Tell them to sod off, if it's been over a year they have to write it off as their mistake. Unless that's changed recently.

It have been over a year since they overpaid me. A year and 3 months actually. Can I actually tell them that because it is over a year, it is their mistake? It was due to them telling me to phone back AFTER I had moved into flat with my boyfriend and I was trying to get them to change the claim to say that I was moving into flat with my boyfriend and I would need to make a new joint claim, but they said no phone again when you have done the moving. Hence why they overpaid me cos I had to phone after i moved in due to them refusing to do anything before I moved in.

I know this was the case a few years ago as they tried it with my sister going back several years, she researched and found they can't do that as their own auditing should have flagged it up.

However, if you're saying it's their fault and not yours then it's time to gather all your information together, all letters, all phone calls, dates, times, names etc and go down the appeals route: https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...3492/COP26.pdf

I keep every single piece of info the HMRC send me and log every single phone call. Especially since they said I owed them nearly 20k, telling me I'd been working for several years, didn't have any kids and that my ex husband earned tons of money. All this as I was going on holiday and threatening to send me to prison if I didn't pay. Needless to say it got sorted but not until I had done a LOT of fighting and threatening.
