can anyone explain to my why reading week has basically been an entire week long allergic reaction?

I've basically had the symptoms of hay fever for a week... in november. And anti-histamines are barely keeping it at bay, they work for maybe 4 hours before i'm either stuffy or itchy - I woke up an hour ago and my eyes are starting to water and my throat is itchy and I have a sinus headache :( and the other day I was coughing so hard with it I nearly threw up :(

I'm gonna book a doctors appointment soon because its worrying me, allergies that I have that are very, very mild are starting to become moderate =/ but it's literally only this week.

Stress maybe? With reading week I'm gonna guess you have exams soon and stress does weird things to our bodies. Have you changed your washing powder recently?could also be something as simple as that

Have i gone mad? Im afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But i'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

I stupidly thought I'd be getting a diagnosis of something today after seeing a consultant, but he reckons it's probably something to do with me not getting enough calcium/vit D in my diet. He showed me that my levels were on the low side on my last blood test in January (they are actually within acceptable parameters). Apparently all I have to do is drink more milk and take cod liver oil capsules and lose weight (despite all those levels being fine and me having these problems at a normal weight). Of course, I have no option other than to listen to him. I am tired of arguing with doctors, so just came out with tears in my eyes yet again, despite him actually being one of the nicest ones I've seen so far.

They have taken yet more blood and he's going to test for diabetes and thyroid issues which I've been tested for before as well. I know it's all necessary but I stupidly thought I'd be getting some answers this time around. I'm seeing my GP on tuesday as they also said I have a UTI, it's not. I just often have high protein in my urine. Hopefully they will have the blood test results as well. I see the consultant in 6-8 weeks. I'm not getting my hopes up again, this has been going on for 5 years. I might just put a stop to it and live with the pain and tiredness instead, I'm used to it now anyway.

    Sigh.

Well it seems that I am severely deficient in Vitamin D! It has shown as low in past test but still in the normal range. This time it was way way under. All my symptoms seem to be the ones found to this deficiency. Half of us in the UK are deficient due to the lack of sunshine but most don't experience any symptoms. As my levels are ridiculously low then I'm feeling them. Been given tablets that contain 60,000 units of vitD to take a week. 2800-5600 is usually fine. But they're giving me these loading doses to kick start everything for 10 weeks as the body can store it for later use. Then it's down to me to make sure I get in the sun on sunny days and take a supplement and eat foods that have vitD, of which there aren't really that many.

So yeah, I'm massively surprised but I couldn't be more relieved in a way. I hope this is the cause of all my issues because it's something that can be very easily fixed.

Actually, in the UK, going out in the sun isn't much use except in high summer. For example, here in Hampshire, you can't even start making vitamin D via your skin until about mid-march (and ending around mid-september) - and in the early part of the year only around mid-day. As you go north, the times possible reduce quite considerably. You also need a reasonable skin exposure, and to leave the skin unwashed and untouched for at least half an hour after coming in from the skin (the vitamin D is formed in the top layers of your skin, and needs time to be absorbed into the bloodstream). Somewhere I found a website that allowed one to calculate dates/times for a given Vit D production, based on your location and skin type - it uses the sun angle to work out when the necessary UV wavelength can penetrate the atmosphere. The scientist who programmed it also created an offline application to do the same calculations.

But anyway, I hope the tablets etc help.

I know, I've fully researched it and I saw a specialist consultant via the NHS not a hack who left me with no information.

I also never said going out in anything except summer was useful, so I don't know what the "Actually..." part of your post is all about. "Actually..." what? I'm wrong? I don't know what I'm talking about? I won't be able to get better without your help?

Please kindly stop with the assumptions and I respectfully request you refrain from posting your "help" on my posts. I also don't want to discuss this any further, so no more input is required.

I posted what I thought was useful information (perhaps not for you, but for others who might come across the thread in later years), and you said "sunny days" which even in the UK happen other than in the summer.

However, as my postings clearly isn't wanted, I won't be making any further ones.

    Merry Christmas to everyone.
