I don't like acrylic tapers, I tend to use steel ones. Threaded ones are a godsend for my tongue, if you find cheaper threaded ones let me know cos I cough up for IS ones. (Where do these puns come from? It's like my brain loves to insert them before I realise)

Taping seems like a daunting task when tapering is usually easy so far...

And does anyone know of a relatively cheap set of threaded tapers? Or even just a 3mm one for now.
Ha! For a second there I thought you meant taper from 2.4mm to 10mm in one go. Silly me.

If you find tapering easier and more suitable for your ears then choose that method. I totally prefer taping though; I find it much easier and quicker and gentler on my lobes than taping. I say quicker, meaning, sizing up 1mm gradually than struggling with a taper from trying to go 1mm all at once. I don't find adding tape and changing it fiddly.

I haven't used threaded tapers but I've seen them around. Though I wouldn't recommend anything if you're looking for cheap alternatives. Stretching takes time and money, and if you're trying to do it cheap then you'll more than likely end up ruining your ears.

Sorry but I'm going to disagree with you there. Just because someone may use a 99p acrylic taper over a £15 threaded insertion pin does not mean they're going to ruin their ears...same goes for buying £3 septum bullets over £100 anatometal blings as initial jewellery. I used cheap tapers and simple or 2nd hand initial jewellery and my lobes are perfect.

Taping is probably the single cheapest way to go so it kinda contradicts what you said really. Unless I'm missing something?

Cheaper doesn't necessarily always mean bad. Just like when people question a piercer because they're cheap, it's skill that matters not prices.

No, I meant choosing a method of stretching and materials based on the price and nothing else. I guess taping would normally be cheaper, but I only first tried it during my last stretch. I will be using it up until 10mm, unless I have any problems. Although, I do spend an average of two hundred euros a month on plugs/tunnels, regardless of size, and I've only been spending that much more since I switched to taping; so I've spent more money compared to when I used to just taper.

My lefty's being annoying. The plug's taped to 9mm (dead on, checked with callipers), I wake up with it halfway through my ear (it's a bullet, and there's no pain), but the 9mm plug will not go in. Just being patient and massaging a lot.
Current: Double nostrils, philtrum, nipple. Various cartilage, 9/16'' lobes.
Retired: Nipple, navel x4, wrist, nape, MD, tongue web x2, lower lip piercings x4, nostril, helix, lobe piercings, septum, cheek piercings.
    4 tattoos.

What is my life for and what am I going to do with it? I don't know and I'm afraid. I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want.

Sorry for the confusion, my bad.

    ---

I so want to stretch my septum, but I'm going to wait another six months. I had it done back in April at 1.6mm, but it took until December to heal. So I'm going to wait until August before I stretch it to 2mm, unless I get myself a piercing for my birthday. Hmm...

I'm waiting on two big orders from BAF containing lots of Kaos in my goal size, so looking forwards to stretching my lobes up to 6mm to be able to wear jewellery I've had sitting around since October.

    Thanks for the replies!

    Does this look okay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Surgical-Sta...item589ab6530f

I'm pretty sure it's 2 or 4 dollars for a pair. Pretty cheap.
