Well, yes, when you're a girl, it's easier to date a guy because of all the homophobia in the world. But honestly, like you said, you can't help who you have feelings for. If you could, I would stop liking gay guys and straight girls (again I must ask, what is WRONG with me?).

But for me, when it comes down to it, I've been hurt by both sexes. It comes down to the person. Someone who truly cares about you will try not to hurt you, because they don't want to see you sad.
