But your hair is so lovely Hazel, I would kill for curls like that. Mine used to but now it won't, I look like I have been dragged through a bush backwards when I do nothing to my hair.

I'm considering cutting back on shampoo and conditioner. Currently I condition every day and shampoo 5-6x a week. How often do other people?

I wash my hair 2x a week at most, and it doesn't get greasy. May be because it's bleached?

I dyed my hair silver today, it's almost perfectly white which I love!

Never I gave up almost a year ago, just use plain water and nothing else. Hair's never been so silky-soft!

They're only this nice now because of how I look after them, if I use heat and shampoo and all that crap it looks hideous curly.

I don't use shampoo, I use a mild co-cleanser and TONS of conditioner. It used to be 2-3 times a month but it's more like 1-3 times a week now depending on how much I swim.

First off we need to know what is your natural hair like, curly/wavy/straight?

If you're curly/wavy you CANNOT not use conditioner.

Straight as a freaking arrow. Fine but a lot of it. Super duper processed. No volume whatsoever

Considering it's so processed then you probably need to condition. I don't know much about how to care specifically for straight hair but know that if it's in kinda good condition you can switch to water only but us curlies cannot.

I do advise anyone ditch the following though:

Detergents - this is basically most shampoos, if they have SLS's (Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate) then you're basically putting dishwasher soap on your hair which will just f**k it up. You can get non SLS shampoos that use coconut derived cleansers like Cocoa-Beta...? something (I forgot it for now).

Silicones - pretty much anything ending in -cone- with things like Dimethicone being the most popular.

Combs with seams, buy seamless ones.

Plastic/artificial brushes, try a boar bristle brush instead.

Heat - curlers, irons, hot hairdryers

    Bleach/permanent colours.

At this point most people say they won't give up all or any of these things. I appreciate some people want to bleach their hair and straighten it but at that point you're just continually damaging it anyway so any hard work is just constantly undone.

It just depends what you want from your hair really.

I don't own a hair dryer, I use sulfate free shampoo/conditioner, I use a boar bristle brush on my dry hair and a wide seamless comb when wet... Bleach and color however, guilty as charged.

My hair is in amazingly good nick given how much I abuse it in terms of dye! I can't get away without conditioning it though, otherwise it just feels like straw. I only wash it once or twice a week though (mainly to prevent fading).
