are you on any blood thinning medication?

i suggest A&E if it's still that bad, seriously.

go to your piercer and if he still says its fine go to the A&E and find a better piercer, hopefully one that checks for blood vessels

Cartilage piercings are done with needles a gauge or 2 bigger than the jewellery anyway to relieve stress on the piercing. Mine were done at 2.4mm I believe, as was my septum and they didn't bleed as much as that.

And I'm a heavy bleeder with piercings sometimes.

Actually come to think of it, my piercer often uses orange cap needles on me which are 2.1mm [I just bobbed on Wildcat to check ]

    I'm not sure where I got 2.4 from O_o

can you get someone to clean that up so that you can see exactly whats going on? try not to disturb any clotting around the piercing itself. It is unusual for a piercing to bleed that much, and it looks scary but there isnt that much blood there really, it just looks bad cos its spread all over the place. I bet your pillow is a mess!. Is it bleeding from just the upper hole?

Well I went to the piercer at lunch time and he said I was right to come in!

He said I must have hit my ear (probably during the night - which was when it started badly) and as the ear swelled and still had more to go it was pressing on the actual bar making the pierce continually move and therefore bleed. He's swapped the big bar now for 2 little ones and I just have to hope that when it's all healed I can get the holes to line up!

But all looks good now (apart from a bit of swelling and bruising) and feels so much better
