when the 16mm is too loose. go back to the piercer, they will tell you when to change it. or do it for you.
And this should be in the piercing section, not general discussion
I'm done, I'm gone. There is nothing here for me anymore.
Change it when the swellings gone down, either go to your piercer and get him/her to do it..or just buy a new bar and do it yourself when it hurts less

Generally about 4-6 weeks, depending on how fast you heal, if you irrate it, etc.
Any sooner that 4 weeks your asking for an infection and as they say the mouth is a gateway to your heart, which if you get an oral infection can lead that infection striaght to your heart and could kill you.
Don't play too hard with fire and you won't get burned.

...If I've done my research, and I am safe about any procedure I decide to undergo; with the proper discussion involved, why can't I just be left alone and look how I want to look? Is that so hard to ask...
Sorry but I disagree. Most piercers add the price of downsizing onto the cost of the initial piercing and will downsize the bar after 10-14 days. If you leave the long bar in for 4-6 weeks it will move around a lot in your mouth and actually extend the healing period. Definitely don't try and change it yourself so early though, pop back to your piercer in a few days time.
