Tbh there's probably dogs out there on the worst wet tinned food known to man and they're fine. Just like some people smoke, drink, eat crap and party all their lives and live into their 80's whilst some who do none of that get hit with illness in their 40's. Nothing is 100% guaranteed to happen/not happen. If he's fine on it and you have no issue feeding him it then carry on! I don't get snobby over it like some on the pet forums. :D

If you do look at changing, do it gradually and get him something hypoallergenic like Burns or JWB or even Royal Canin (although some people have said they have changed their ingredients recently to include a nasty ingredient) but RC have stuff that's gentle on tums.

Adopting a bearded dragon who needs lots of help! Currently looking for a viv/tank as he is living in a hamster cage with sand substrate and I don't trust that one bit. Also, no lamp.

You tell me! I'm just trying to find out what I need atm, looking at vivs online, looking at set ups and substrates, reading stuff, by the end of the weekend I'd know!

:D I thought when you said you were adopting it you already had experience of looking after them. Get on www.reptileforums.co.uk, plenty of experts on there. If it turns out the lamp is suitable I have one going spare if you want it, but look into it first as I know it's safe for tortoises but not sure about lizards.

Sadly no, I have a snake but that's it, and ofc they have a slightly different set up. I have been on those forums for my snake but currently using a facebook page specifically for bearded dragons atm.

eBay has tons of stuff like that! And pretty cheap too. Also check out sites like preloved and freecycle (if in UK).

No no no no no to the link above. I'd also say no to buying second hand, ESPECIALLY the UV bulb. You need to know exactly how old it is so you know when to change it. I'd never suggest buying "brand new" on ebay either. Recently, a seller on there was found to be selling TERRIBLE products that would be dangerous. He was scratching the real name off the product and packaging it in the best, brand name packaging :(

Then for substrate, use lino. We got a bit for £10 from one of those huge carpet places. It was big enough to do 2 vivs. That's your very basic set up :) Total cost is £161.86, plus £4.99 for delivery from Essex Reptile and whatever you get charged for lino (some people get given it for free when they ask for offcuts from a roll!). Plus, now that you're a member of that group on facebook, they have an Essex Reptile 5% discount code. Oh, and a food bowl for their salad! You can get a cheapie £2 one. Plus the basking bulb. You can get those from asda though. They currently have a 2 packs of 4 bulbs for £4 I think. With the light fixture I linked you to, I can tell you exactly what bulb you need :)

That is everything NEEDED for a 3ft setup. Any other viv decor bits is up to you and your budget. If you're going to take the guy on, let me know if you need any help with anything. Like how to work those dimmer sockets etc.

I keep mine very basic as it makes feeding a LOT easier! Crickets are fast xD

He's a gift for Colin and he's mine really ;) he's 3 years old and massive! He's been missing his foot since he was a baby. We've called him Indi.

Thanks Toni, ordered the four things from essexreptiles just now. Will get the others bits tomorrow perhaps, popping to pets at home to get him some food anyway, as well as the calcium suppliment.
