I don't recall anyone giving their advice based on what they've seen on TV, just that they don't want to go through with it themselves. You go and say she can't comment on it because she hasn't been through then go and quote your own negative/bad experiences that will probably just contribute to her not wanting to give birth, haha. Way to make a point...


Pretty sure I've said this before in this thread, but I never plan on being pregnant. It terrifies and disgusts me and I'd panic so much if I found out I was pregnant. If I do decide I want kids in the future, I'd rather adopt.

See, I do agree with you but if what she's seen on TV/the internet is enough for her to think it's not for her, then you can't argue with that either.

I completely disagree, what's her hurry? That's actually one of the most immature things I have ever heard.

Anyway.. I want kids one day.. but don't know if it's possible..

I think we are all allowed opinions! And that is what she voiced. And, yeah, maybe there was some misguided/ing information in the list of con's to pregnancy but that was put right by Dawn with a decent explaination and no one faults Swimming for listing them when that is part of the reason she may or may not want kids.

If she was giving advice I'd understand LJays point. But she wasn't so tbh I think that was an over-reactive and totally unnecessary reason to have a go.

Troll though she may or may not be you don't b*ll*ck people out their views or try and violate their opinions.

From what I've seen with friends/family and newborns, it's such a massive shock to the system having to care for a baby and it's extremely tiring. You might want one with all your might, be financially stable.. but at 16 I personally believe it would hit you a lot harder. I didn't know who the hell I was at 16 - I thought I did!

I've only seen it on the telly, and heard it first-hand from my sister-in-law, and it's been enough to make me wait longer.
If people can't comment until they've been through it, how on earth are we meant to have a 'Kids Vs No Kids' discussion? There'd only be one side!

I just love the use of the word opinion.

Fine if it was expressed as an opinion but to me it seemed more like an order.

Most women who have given birth will ay that yes whilst it is painful, its a totaly different kind of pain which soon you forget about.
My c-section was painful, but no matter how hard i try an remember just how painful it was... i cant, i just know that i couldnt walk the next day.


Ljay, whilst i can kind of see your point that you dont know how bad something is until you have tried it etc cant judge from tv/books an internet.... id like this topic to stay open.. resorting to personal attacks really isnt needed... after all its a grown up conversation, if you want to educate someone on something you dont attack them.

That's what the sis-in-law said to me. She can't remember the specific pain, but then it's hard to remember pain from anything. She had a massively hard time giving birth that she's still not quite recovered from that experience 7 months on. I'm not scared of childbirth, but I am scared of it having complications.

I dont think theres any woman out there who isnt scared of complications, im one of them where even though i might not voice it, it finds its own way out through my dreams.. iv had really bad dreams just lately.

Sadly though like everything in life there is a risk of complications, one thing we can be grateful for i suppose is that medical intervention is possible. Without it childbirth would be just as hard as it was way back when... iv been told recently that for some women if you have an elecetive c-section you can come out the next day, something to do with because the body hasnt gone into labour its not put under as much strain so you recover quicker. Where as if you have to go through half of the labour.. its more of a strain so your body needs longer to recover.. Who knows?

Yes - back to "Have Kids or Not To Have Kids - Or to have Kid's eventually...".


I think I said early that I will do eventually.

I'm not too worried about the pregnancy bit etc etc. I may also be unable to have kids and if that is the case then adoption is always an option. Or fostering. And if I can have kids I will look into pregnancy more and see how I feel about it.

I really do hope the birth and rest of the pregnancy etc etc goes well for you Dawn. I think concerns and worries are natural but you cope really well!

Despite having posted in here I don't think I ever said where I stand on having kids

I never want them, ever! I would be mortified if I found out I was pregnant. The whole idea of pregnancy and child birth and child rearing terrifies me. I'd be a terrible parent anyway

I accept that one day I may change my mind (as so many women insist on telling me) but to be honest I just don't see it

I'm neither financially nor emotionally ready to have a child, nor do I think I ever would be anytime soon. Maybe if I win the lottery and have done everything fun I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I'd adopt a child when I'm old.

I keep changing my mind on the whole issue. Sometimes I'm very 'no-kids-ever' and other times I think that actually it might be nice to have one at some point in the future. Just one though, and I'd need to be in a stable, long-term relationship and financially capable of bringing up a child.

I'm a worrier though. I worry about everything and I'm not sure that I could cope with the being pregnant part. Having an abortion would also be really difficult for me too though, I'm not sure I could do that either!

I've always wanted children. And I want to go through pregnancy and labour and all of that. I love watching the shows with births and stuff because I find it fascinating.

If I happened to be pregnant now, I know I could cope. I love children, love being around them and love taking care of them. I take care of my nephews all the time and they are just 1 and 2. I know, if I got pregnant now, that my parents would help me in any way they could. I do want to wait till I'm in a stable relationship and making money, but if it happens now, it happens.

I could never have an abortion. Its not the right thing for me, most definately not. I'm not saying that I think its wrong, but its just not for me.

Having a living thing inside me scares me, as does the process of getting it out, Also knowing its dependant on me and i cant screw up.
But if i got pregnant tomorrow id keep it, any other option and id always wonder what if, ....that sounds really weird :(

Honestly, it seems better to just have a c-section and not worry about possibly having serious complications. Who really wants to experience all that grunting and pushing anyway? Do people actually enjoy that?

I wouldn't necessarily call it the easy way out.

I know it's major surgery, but let's face it, having a child is a major strain on the body. And pushing a baby out through your vagina can be very dangerous for some women, more dangerous than the surgery.

More women than you'd think.

You still get loads of complications in c-sections. Some of them very serious. It's an individual thing, some women are better off with c-sections, some women are far better off without one.
