General Relationship Thread

As for the whole "sex is essential to a relationship" thing, what do you guys think about people in long-term relationships that haven't had sex yet? I'm in that situation right now, and I know others who wait 'til the several months - 1 year mark to have sex. Or what about people who even wait until marriage? Did they not have a real relationship before because they weren't having sex?
I'm not saying you could be together forever and not have sex or have a terrible sex life, but IMO it's definitely not as important as communication and just love for the person.

I don't think you truly know your flat mates until you have heard them having cake. Mine appear to have sweet tooth which I'm used to having to hear, but its funny to see my boyfriend's face when he hears it. He can't seem to block the noise out.

Well ive known ben for nearly 14 years, we were the best of friends/courting type thing very very flirty cuddly friends for a year or so, we officially got together and 6 months after that we first had sex and weve been officially together nearly 3 years. I originally planned to wait until marriage, but one day out of the blue changed my mind and I havent regretted that at all. I think that its a good idea to know each other before sex because then you have a strong friendship and bond , and even if the sex is rubbish it wont matter, but if your relationship was only built on sex youd not have much left if it were rubbish.

On the 'cake' topic - I initiate it 99.9% of the time, which does put things in my mind sometimes when I'm feeling down about whether he finds me desirable etc and wondering why he doesn't jump on me (just asked him, he said "it's very rare when I'm in a situation where I think 'hmm, I fancy a bit of sex' and you haven't started kissing me/taken your clothes off already" haha). It'd be nice for him to do it now and then though, makes me feel wanted :p. I should get on the pill to kill my sex drive so I can see how high his actually is lol.

I'm loving this cake metaphor, I lol'd at "baking" and "I could have the whole freakin' cake shop!" :D.

Personally I think waiting till marriage is utterly ridiculous and I wouldn't even think of getting into a relationship with someone who believed that, even if I really liked them it would just totally put me off...and personally I wouldn't want to wait around for that long full stop, maybe a couple of months - I wouldn't specify a particular limit though. With my last two boyfriends we had delicious cake before we were really 'together'. :tongue:

Yeah me&chris waited just under 9 months to have sex, and I would say we definitely had a relationship for those first nine months!

Yeah, I wouldn't wait 'til marriage either because it would be horrible if you didn't have good sex!

Well, the plus side would be my left arm would become ridiculously hench.
