T. Gondii is a nasty parasite, not just because of the risk of blindness, but the way it seems to alter behaviour (in rats, cats and apparently even humans). ISTR reading a report that a higher-than-expected number of people killed in motoring accidents had evidence of infection by the parasite (the assertion was that this was due to the increased risk-taking - in men - caused by the infection).

Yeah pregnant women are now advised not to touch litter boxes at all because it can make her and the child very ill from toxoplasmosis. Also pet rodents, like mice and hamsters. That's too bad, but it's also good you now know, right?

Yes, it seems like the only things I got from it was partial blindness/squint and possibly deafness, possibly asthma but asthma runs in the family so can't really say if asthma is down to that. I was pretty lucky to have escaped with brain damage or anything like that.
Yep it is good that I now know as it had been a bugbear with me not knowing why for years due to no history in family on both sides.

Yeah pregnant women are more aware of the dangers nowadays as I first heard of the disease about 10 years ago but not any earlier than that so it must have been a recent discovery than it was in the 80's.

Yep it is good that I now know as it had been a bugbear with me not knowing why for years due to no history in family on both sides.

In the same way, I'm very glad that my mother decided she didn't want to take any the thalidomide she was prescribed for her morning sickness, and that I was born late enough to avoid the live polio vaccine.

OTOH, I've never really minded the colour blindness inherited from my grandfather (although I can't imagine what it would be like to just see in greyscales as he did).

Thanks :) I'm sure it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life, but getting out of the casino and working nights/super early mornings is what I need right now.
