So when I was in college, there was this girl who I was inseparable from. She was my best friend in every way, we did everything together. Then near the end of college we both did some pretty shitty things, I went to university, she had to repeat a year and that was that, we parted on bad terms and didn't speak for ages. (It didn't help that the rest of our friendship group at college would deliberately only ever invite one or the other of us to outings after our falling out, even though we were perfectly civil with one another; not that that really matters).
Despite the fact we weren't friends on Facebook any more, she remained friends with my mum. About two years ago, she asked my mum how I'd respond to a message from her; oddly, I'd been thinking the same thing. I wanted to apologise for the things I did, but I also wanted to thank her for one of the best friendships I ever had and some amazing times (I knew we'd never be best friends again, and I was fine with that, I just wanted her to know, that despite everything, she still had a very fond place in my memories). So she friended me, I told her as much and she felt exactly the same. Things were pretty awkward to begin with, but we slowly warmed up to each other, we met a couple of times, we commented on status and so on. It was good to reconnect.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago she got engaged to her wonderful boyfriend. Then today she actually asked me to be her bridesmaid. I was gobsmacked. Like, I was secretly hoping that I might get an invite to the wedding or at least the evening do, never mind that she'd want me to play a big part in it! Like, I don't think I've been this stunned in a long while. Naturally, I said yes!
So, yeah. Really very excited and really very, very happy. ^_^
(This is actually the second person who has asked me to be their bridesmaid this summer; the other being my best friend. I'm just as excited about hers, but I've kind of known for the last seventeen years that I was going to be her bridesmaid!)
