Lip piercing and braces.
Does anyone think a lip piercing with braces would be a bad idea? I've wanted my lip pierced for years, but I have braces and will still have them for a while. I severely have a piercing craving, and this is the only thing I really want at the moment.
I'm going to call my orthodontist later and ask him, but wanted to see what you guys thought first since you all are obviously more educated on piercings.

First it will depend on what kinda braces you wear and what kind of lip piercing you want.
For example if you've just got a removable retainer on your upper teeth and want a labret then there wont be much of an issue. But if you have fixed braces on both sets of teeth and want snake bites then yes, there could be a problem.
Your orthodontist is going to tell you only bad things about lip piercings, most of which are true (gum recession, chipping teeth, offsetting the progress of your braces, risk of infection etc). So to be honest, you might be best off waiting it out rather than complicating things anymore than they need be.
But as i first said, if your braces are just on your top teeth and you want a lower lip piercing there's far less of a chance of something going awry.Valhalla Tattoo & Piercing

Well, if you have the traditional track tracks, I'd really recommend against it for now, as it could catch on there and cause a higher rejection rate, It'll just catch and get quite irritated. On the other hand, with braces you have to keep your mouth super clean, so this could be conducive as a healing environment, but for now, overall, I'd say just wait it out for now, it'll be all the better when you get it!

If you get it pierced with a bar with flat back (labret stud) I think there would be less catching. I really dont advise getting pierced or wearing a ring with the braces, I feel it would catch and get irritated. Aslong as the bar is the right size (No bar hanging out) maybe it would be okay?
If you can, wait. If not, go for the labret.

Also braces tend to catch food which could cause a build up of bacteria that may effect the piercing. I'm of the view that if your spending all this time getting your teeth sorted you should give them a chance to settle before you do anything else to your mouth.
Why is it so important you get it done now? You have your whole life to get pierced Maybe when you've had the braces out and finished with the business of retainers you can get it done as a celebration of having your mouth back (and ironically stick more metal in it!).
Lip piercings do damage teeth on a lot of people, plastic bars and specialist labret ends can help with this but you should be of the mind that your piercing will damage your teeth in some respect rather than it might not - if you spent a long time sorting out your teeth only to ruin your enamel with a piercing you have to know your going to be ok with that
