I think you need to get over your fear of piercing shops. You sound fairly young (which isn't a criticism) so maybe you just need to give it time to get over that fear!

Piercing yourself anywhere is dangerous but there are veins in your lips which you shouldn't pierce through and also its almost impossible to get the right angle on your self with the clamps in order to pierce straight and in a good position so that it won't rub your teeth or damage your gums. You are much, much better off going to pro!

How for example are you sterilising your jewellery and clamps?
    What needle are you using?
What gauge of jewellery do you have?
What is your jewellery made from?
How are you cleaning the area you are working in etc?

There are so many things you need to know before self-piercing and to me you don't sound like you are experienced enough with piercings in general to be giving this a go - if you've not been to a pro how do you know how to pierce like one :P?

+1 on Kuku. Piercing shops aren't scary- Its an irrational phobia because all they do is what you want to do, but better! Also people still go to a surgeon if they want plastic surgery, they don't try to do it themselves even if they have a fear of hospitals etc, same principle here.

    Don't self pierce. Unless you're a pro & even then I wouldn't if I were you.

Go to a decent studio. Theres nothing scary about them, honest!
