Default Bump on nose - should I take it out?

I had my nostril pierced last month.. and I admit, I messed about with it too quickly.

But I have a horrible looking bump on it, and although I don't fiddle with the jewellery, sometime the ball kind of embeds itself in the bump, and when I pull it away from the bump it starts bleeding. Every time.

I've soaked it and cleaned it and tea-tree oiled it and LITHA'd everything else I can think of. Would the bump go away quicker if I took the stud out?

I've never been bothered about bumps on things before, I always look after them and theyve always gone away... but with this being on my face, I'm very conscious about it, and I'm getting fed up with my workmates "commenting" on it.

I don't mind losing it, cause I can just get something else pierced instead.

Well the stud sinking in is no way helping it, what sort of jewellery have you got? If you want to keep it I'd get it changed to something possibly with a bigger end or with a longer stem/post. Which will be a bitch to start with changing the jewellery again but will be beneficial in the long run. I would go to a piercer and have them do it because it'll be done in a cleaner environment and it'll probably cause less trauma to your nose!

Have you tried chamomile tea bags? Alot of people rave about them on here so they must do something! Apparently they're dead good with cartilage piercings that keep flaring up.

However, if you just want to give up just give up. Take it out, sea salt soak and just leave it. The bump should go down in a week or two, I took my tragus out when it had a bump on it and it dissapeared in a couple of weeks.

Oh and you know what will stop your workmates commenting on it? Give 'em a good biff round the head.

What is your jewellery made of? I had a huge bump with my nostril piercing, tried everything to get rid of it and nothing worked, I had the bump for about 6 months. Then changed to titanium jewellery and it cleared up straight away and hasn't come back

On a new piercing tea tree oil can sometimes make the bump better but then a bit worse as its irritating too for new piercings!

Try chamomile tea bags - hot ones once a day till they go cool and i would get the jewellery changed - do you have a ring or a bar? what is it made from?

I have a titanium nostril stud like this

The first time I put a little tea tree oil on it it seemed to go down! But I've done it a few more times since then and it just seems to have dried it out a bit.

I haven't tried the chamomile tea bags yet. I might as a last resort.

I wouldn't be as concerned if it didn't bleed everytime I touched it or cleaned it.

Ah...the blood may suggest it is something else...

Is your bump squishy or hard? What colour is it? Does it change colour when you press it?

and ideally its the tea tree oil that should be the last resort when it comes to hypertrophic scarring as it is so strong :P

Um, its hard and white when its dried out but squidgy and red when I've cleaned it.

I've just taken the stud out and its quite firm.

I can't get a decent photo cause my camera is pants. It's red cause I just SSS'd.

*edit* Although you can't really see in that photo, it's quite raised and I look like the wicked witch. Please excuse my huge horrible big wonky nose.

    Your nose is lovely :P

And don't worry its not an abscess or anything nasty Hypertrophic bumps like to change colour and aren't soft :P Mine used to bleed a little bit so maybe yours just likes the red stuff!

Chamomile tea bag compresses should sort it right out, just use them hot till they go cool (don't burn yourself though!)
