Default Good hoops for cartilage piercing?

I have my cartilage double pierced and a couple months ago I changed the studs to some hoops I purchased at Spencer's.

It was pretty much healed [no longer sore to touch and it didn't puss] but the hoops caused my ear to turn red and swell so I had to take them out.

I thought they were okay cause the packaging said they were sterling silver but they were only 10 bucks so they could have been cheap..

Here are a couple pictures of the hoops so maybe you could tell me why my ear reacted that way..I don't have any allergies to it so I don't think that's the problem.

Also, the hoops were a BITCH to get in.It's one of those where you have to curve the hoop around to get in your ear..and it hurts BAD.
Now, I don't know if that's how all hoops are, but if not, tell me where you can get ones that are easier to put in and ones that will be better for my ears and also what kind.

Sorry for the length, I just thought it was important to put it all in here.

Sterling silver? Thats crappy stuff to put in your body.
They look.. weird.. Why do they open like that?
Errr anyway, conclusion: they are crap material.

Are you piercings well healed? "Pretty much healed"?
Cause you shouldnt be switching the jewellery in and out if they arnt.
    Especially to rings/BCR's.
I would only put rings in seriously well healed piercings, and even then keep a good eye on them.

If you really want rings get some titanium BCR's.
Where the ball just clips/pops in and out.

If any of that doesent make sense, apologies. I'm knackered.

Sterling silver is what silver coins are made of.
Just thought i'd add that into this otherwise covered thread.

Was your cartilage pierced with a gun?

Oh yeah, knew I forgot sommats!
Make sure you get the right gauge.

If they were gunned it'll be best to go for 1mm.
If they were needled either 1.2mm or 1.6mm.

    Yeah, it was gunned.
    Very foolish indeed.
    I would need a 1mm i guess.
    Anywhere to get those?

I did think they were crap but i figured it was important to ask.

I would say they are healed.
The only reason I said pretty much was because they hurt when I bash them into things but I guess that would be normal anyways haha.

Cartlidge can take about 6 months to fully heal. How long ago were they pierced?
    Currently:

    Inverse navel (1.6)

    left ear:
    2 lobes (first 8mm second 1.2mm)
    Tragus(retired)
    double helix

    right ear:
    2 lobes(first 8mm second 1.2mm)
    Helix

    future:
    right rook
    lip

    Like here.

But I would get some 1mm titanium barbells or labret studs to begin with, give them another couple of months to settle. These would do the job.

Time dosnt mean anyhting though, a piercer can say it will take 6 months, but it could take a year.

6 months really isnt that long for cartilage, espessically as you had it gunned. Id wait another 2 months at the least.
