    Default RIP Microdermal [pics]

    RIP Right Microdermal- July 6th 2007- Oct 8th 2007

As some of you may know, I got 2 lovely microdermals in the begining of July. Oh how I loved them so <3.
Unfortunatly, one of them had been a bit of a bother starting about a month or so later. The area around the anchor had been quite pinkish since atleast august and I had always just hoped it was a late healer and would eventually settle down.

Sadly- these last few days this fussy little microdermal got progressivly worse. Now, let me be the first to say that I'm not one of those sad people you see on BME, with their eyebrow bars hanging off by just a thread of skin. I know that when a piercing is rejecting itself it's best to take it out and try again.
However, with microdermals being such a new thing, no one (that I know of) implants them (let alone removes them) in my city. (I had gotten them done while on vacation in england, I live in canada).
Today was a bit of a climax in terms of this little microdermal's fussyness. I woke up with it being quite sore, really red and with a strange fleshyness under the microdermal itself. It looked terrible and was OBVIOUSLY rejecting. I gave it a salt soak, hoping it would help it a bit. To no avail. I tried icing it a bit, to help with the swelling. No luck. Infact, i went to touch the microdermal to see how it was doing and...something wasn't right. I could feel the disc.. and an extra little piece of metal. 'NOOOOO' i thought while rushing to the bathroom. I had a look in the miror and yup.. one of its feet had managed to work its way through my skin. I knew what had to be done.. I got some saline solution, some qtips and a exacto knife (closest thing I had to a scalpel). I cleaned everything and gently tugged at the microdermal, to see if it would pop out. Nope. Evidentally my skin HAD managed to 'anchor' through the little holes. I gently cut the microdermal free and slowly pulled it out. No pain whatsoever. However, I do now have strange fleshyness sorta popping through the hole, what I can only imagine is the fistula(?). (think of when u cook a sausage, and u pop a hole in the skin, how the meat sorta swells out through the hole.. if that makes sense).
I washed the wound with saline solution and put a bandaid on it temporarily, just incase it decides to bleed (which it hasn't yet).
I'm really sad that I've had to say goodbye to one of my microdermals :( hopefully the jewellery can be autoclaved and inserted somewhere else.
In terms of what went wrong.. I'm really not sure, considering his twin is doing more than fine.

The following are some (pretty graphic) pictures...

My other microdermal misses his twin dearly:

you should get a new piercing to make up for it.

I think so. I have a big thing for symmetry and it feels strange only having 1 microdermal on my chest. (i had one under each collar bone). Im hoping that next time im in england (or whenever people start offering them in studios here) i'll be able to get the jewellery autoclaved and re-inserted.
