I had my lobes and helix gunned at claire's in the past (I wasnt aware of the gun and cartilage risks at the time) and i had no problems at all with those piercings, guess i was a lucky customer :S

Also i see some people have been discussing the claire's aftercare product, I have inspected the bottle and indeed it contains:

    Ingredients: Aqua, Benzalkonium Chloride
    Active Ingredients: Benzalkonium Chloride (0.1%)

and it is made by "Studex", its labelled "Claire's ear care lotion" as if its their own product but if you read the small print it is actually made by studex, the same manufacturer of the guns. This aftercare product is pretty much the same as the aftercare product my piercer gave me for my tragus and snug, however the solution i got also had Disodium EDTA in it. I have no idea what any of these ingredients are but it seems to be decent stuff to me, i healed very well with it and in the future ill probly buy the claire's version because for the same price as the stuff in my piercers you get 5 times the amount and its basically the same stuff.

Claire's are not now using one use guns to my knowledge as i recently(2 weeks ago) went in with my girlfriend (who is afraid of needles so wont go to a proper piercer) to get her lobes done a second time and they used a shiny metal gun(dont know what type of metal, titanium or stainless steel maybe?) with the usual stud cartriges.

Yup, that's the stuff I've got. In my ten years of having any kind of piercing, it's always worked well for me.

I think it's just like an antiseptic or something
Yeah it is just an antiseptic/disinfectant sort of thing, but I guess there are a few people who are allergic to it.

Went past claires in croydon today, and saw this little girl...must of been about 5 or so. Problem was, the gun was stuck in her ear and couldn't get it out.

I know they're different but its showing how cheap they are!

They still use guns for lobes at Tiger Lily in Oxford...
